Size
The Joovy Kooper X2 is a side-by-side double stroller which can seat two children at up to 50lbs each. Its seats are larger bigger than those of other double strollers that are lightweight, and the canopies have large SPF 50 sunshades that have peekaboo windows. Other important features include cup holders with one parent and an enormous, self-standing basket that can accommodate up to 25 pounds; swing-away bar for children to climb into and out of their seats; and the front wheels that swivel lock to allow for better maneuverability on rough terrain. This is a great choice for urban and suburban families. It is also baby-friendly with a double set that includes an infant wedgie that can be used to lie flat in a position.
Weight
The weight of double buggies will determine its ease of pushing. A lighter buggy is easier to lift and transport, but may not have enough suspension to deal with bumps and uneven terrain.
Make sure to read the specifications of each model before you purchase. Certain
single double stroller buggies come with the capacity to hold a maximum weight of a person, while others have a frame limit. Some double buggies can be folded with the seats removed, making them lighter and smaller. This is helpful when you're limited on storage space.
Tri-fold doubles are typically the lightest, since they only require one hand to lift the back and lower sections. They are also a bit smaller than buggies that are side by side and can be accessed through the majority of doorways. The iCandy Geo 3 tri-fold double is among the lightest on the market. It can comfortably fit twins or a toddler and baby.
Tandem buggies start out as one pushchair, but they come with adapters that allow you to add a carrycot, a second seat or car seat, making them the ideal choice for expanding families. Some, such as the iCandy Orange offer over 30 different seating configurations, so they can expand with your family up to a 3rd child. They are heavier than tri-folds but because the weight is more evenly distributed, they are easier to move around.
Folding
The best double buggies designed for small children fold in a matter of seconds. This feature is appreciated by our Lab experts because it allows them to fit the buggies in the back of their cars and save space when they're not in use. The Joovy Kooper X2 for example includes straps that can be pulled up on each seat and the entire thing folds down. Even our oldest testers could do this tri-fold with just one hand.
The lightweight Delta Children LX Side by Side is another good choice for a small double buggies. Its light weight is a plus, but it also has some great features: nice-sized pop-out canopies with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows swing-away bars to help youngsters climb in and out of the seats; and reclined seating and leg rests for smaller children.
Manoeuvrability
When selecting a compact double stroller, it is important to think about its maneuverability. This includes the ease for both children to ride in the buggy. Certain
twin pushchairs are more efficient than others at this, including the iCandy Orange's "cinema chair" (where the back is elevated).
The narrow tandem buggies are effective in this regard, as are side-by-side designs. However, they are more substantial overall, and therefore could be difficult to navigate through doors.
The UPPAbaby Vista 2
pushchair twin is a great example, as it is a relatively
compact double buggy model that can accommodate two seats in addition to the most important thing is a pillion board that can be used to accommodate a third child.
Other smaller, three wheeled models, such as the phil&teds Dot are also incredibly agile. This is particularly evident with its innovative "dot kit" that transforms it into an inline buggie. It offers two seating options for children of different ages and the front seat can be rotated to face the parents for more intimate bonding. It has an enormous storage basket that is easy to fold. A great choice for families that are growing!
Comfort
With compact tandem strollers or flexible side-by-side buggies parents can watch both kids while at the park, at the grocery store or any other place. These lightweight doubles can accommodate two children of up to 50 lbs per seat and come with generous pop-out canopy that extends enough to provide real shade with peekaboo windows and padded leg rests for children to relax and kick back. The doubles come with cups for both parents and a an reversible cupholder that is located on the seatback. They also have an ample underseat storage basket.
